Carers in Newham have been showing off their creative sides by taking part in jewellery making workshops.
creative:release, organised by arts charity Create, has been developed to offer “me time” to people who can spend more than 50 hours a week caring for another person.
Create’s professional jewellery designer has been helping carers to create a range of items for themselves, family and friends and each other during weekly sessions in Stratford Advice Arcade.
The scheme has been extended to include Newham for the first time, thanks to funding from Reed Smith LLP.
Nicky Goulder, co-founder and chief executive of Create, said: “The creative arts are a great leveller and have an incredible capacity to break down barriers and bring people together.
“creative:release is helping carers to develop their social skills, grow in self-confidence and to take a needed break from their caring responsibilities. It is our huge honour to give them this experience.”
