The money, from the L&Q Foundation, will allow the Newham All Star Sports Academy (NASSA) to offer free basketball training sessions for young people aged seven and over, including one at Rokeby School, Canning Town.

In addition, anyone aged 14 or over will be able to gain accredited sporting qualifications and take part in work placements.

Natasha Hart, chief executive of NASSA, said: “The take-up for the clubs has been fantastic and we are excited to see all our new attendees boosting their confidence and sporting abilities.

“Thanks to this grant, we can help to meet that demand and start to train the next generation of qualified coaches and officials.”
