New games facilities at Britannia Village, West Silvertown, were opened with a performance from the Ascension Eagles cheerleaders who were watched by youngsters who will be using the multi-sport area.
The honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the official launch of The Edge was given to Louis and Milana Gray, winners of a competition to name it.
The Edge includes purpose-built courts and space for football, basketball, tennis, netball, hockey and volleyball. It was built by East Thames housing with 150,000 funding from The Veolia Environmental Trust and 15,000 from Newham Council.
Pamela Gardner, interim director at East Thames, said: “This is a great time to be building a sporting facility for the local community to enjoy.
“It may even inspire the beginnings of East London’s next sporting hero.”
