A new fire station has opened in Plaistow.
Firefighters began operating from the new building on the existing site in Prince Regent Lane yesterday morning.
The construction of the building was carried out under the Private Finance Initiative, a project which saw nine London fire stations being rebuilt.
Station Manager Joseph Kenny said: “This brand new fire station is good news for the local community. The previous Plaistow station no longer met the demands of a modern fire and rescue service.

Construction on the new station began in 2013 and was completed last month.
Mr Kenny added: “The new station will provide us with facilities fit for the 21st century and reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible service to Londoners.”
