The danceathon got charity fundraisers throwing shapes for three hours straight at Beckton Community Centre on Saturday - all to raise money for four-year-old Louis Kellegher.

Louis, who lives with his mum Laura in Collier Row, Havering, has lost 70 per cent of his hearing after he was diagnosed with chloesteatoma which means he has a tumour growing on his eardrum.

So Louis’ dance teacher, Lauren Cooke, who runs Smooth Moves Dance Academy in Epping, decided to get her movers and shakers to jive to help pay for a pioneering operation that could save his hearing.

Dancers showcased various styles of dance from street to Zumba to signature party moves.

There was also a stall selling second-hand goodies and crafts, as well as face-painting for the little ones and balloons.

Lauren said she was “so very happy” with the amount of money raised. She added: “Those that took part and came along really enjoyed it.”

Louis’ tumour can be operated on by the NHS but there is a risk he could lose what hearing he has left.

So mum Laura, 26, is looking to raise £10,000 for a pioneering operation that has a better chance of avoiding that risk by using laser technology to remove the tumour.

She told the Romford Recorder last month: “It is a very rare condition in children, but without the treatment it will become life threatening.

“I am devastated for him, but I know I am going to get him that treatment to get him well.”
