Newham had the highest rate of home repossessions in the country last year, figures from the Ministry of Justice have shown.

The borough’s rate of repossession was 191 for every 100,000 households.

The data also show 2015 was the year with the highest number of evictions from rented homes by bailiffs since records began at the start of the century.

A total of 42,728 households were evicted by bailiffs in England and Wales in 2015, with London – not just Newham – at the top-end of the table.

Of the 20 local authorities with the highest rate of landlord repossession in the country, 16 were boroughs in the capital.
