Spotty, an eight-month-old white cat, was on her way to the Celia Hammond Animal Trust in Canning Town when she bolted in fear after the door of her pet carrier fell open.

She was spotted by a member of the public hiding on a ground floor balcony near McDonald’s in Canning Town.

Staff from the centre found the fearful puss after a six-day search. She was suffering from dehydration and weight loss.

Owner Veronica Stanford, 82, from Stratford, said: “I’m very happy. I was really sad when we lost her. It was lovely to hold her in my arms again.”

The charity’s Celia Hammond said: “I am so relieved Spotty is safe. She had never been outside and could so easily have become just another little stray on the streets.

“We are so happy that she will be spayed and going home soon.”
