Could you break the marathon world record at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this summer?

That’s the challenge to runners entering the team relay at the Great Newham London Run on July 19.

Each member of the quartet will take on two laps of the park, with the combined distance being equal to that of a marathon.

Men’s teams can challenge Dennis Kimetto’s record of two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds, while women can have a crack at Paula Radcliffe’s time of two hours, 15 minutes and 25 seconds.

In both the male and female sections, there are prizes on offer, with the team in each category posting the fastest time claiming £2,000.

Speaking to the Recorder recently, Great Run ambassador Paula said that there is “plenty of time to get ready” if you’re considering entering.

“My tip would be to get together with a group of friends and build up your training gradually,” she said.

“Make sure you have got the right pair of running shoes for you and just go out and enjoy it.”

Entry for the team relay costs £25 per person, and can be booked at greatrun.org
