Schoolkids have raised cash for east London’s children’s hospice by making and selling their own products.
The 11-year-ols from Manor Park’s John Heron Primary made seasonal cards, cakes, biscuits and decorations in the run-up to Christmas and sold them to their mums, dads and teachers.
They handed over a £300 cheque this week to Richard House hospice in Beckton.
“The children did all the planning themselves,” said class teacher Cecilia Bekker. “They decided on what they wanted to sell, calculated the budget and planned how to set out the school hall where the sale took place.”
The entrepreneurial youngsters visited the hospice to hand in the cheque and toured the garden where they bought a brick for its ‘Path of Life’ inscribed with a message. Donations for the bricks or tiles range from £50 to £5,000.
