St Barnabas Church will be holding a memorial service for former parish priest Rev Barry Arscott who died in August after a short illness.

The service will be held at the church in Browning Road, on October 5 at 5.30pm.

Rev Barry grew up in Manor Park and attended St Barnabas Church as a very active member from a young age. He was inspired by the ministry of Canon Nigel Porter and trained for the priesthood. After serving in Walthamstow and Leyton he returned to St Barnabas in 1977 as a priest until his retirement in 2001.

He initiated the Faith in Community Inter-Faith Dialogue project and the St Barnabas based Newham Festival of the Arts and helped the setting up of the Newham Night Shelter project. Among his many community commitments were Kensington Avenue School and the Trinity Community Centre in East Avenue, Manor Park.

Everyone who remembers Barry is welcome to attend.
