A man was rescued at the Royal Docks in East London last night after he slipped off the quayside and plunged 20ft into the water.
The alarm was raised by passers-by at 8.30pm when he was seen struggling when he was in the Victoria Dock close to the ExCel Centre at Custom House.
The man was pulled clear from the freezing water by the crew of a Met Police marine unit rescue craft which arrived in the dock within minutes from its base at Wapping.
An ambulance crew and a hazardous area response team treated the man at the scene and took him to Newham Hospital.
Emergency crews were also called in from Silvertown and West Ham fire stations.
