A man who slashed a 38-year-old’s face with a carpenter’s knife leaving him permanently scarred has been jailed for five years.
Paul Chambers, 30, cut the man’s face in Broadway, Stratford, after complaining he was making too much noise.
Chambers, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Tuesday, July 4, with DC Adam Daisley of Newham police saying the sentence reflected the severity of the attack.
“This was a violent attack which has left the victim permanently disfigured,” he said. “I am pleased that the court recognised the severity of the incident and handed down a stiff sentence.”
Chambers pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm after he was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at the scene of the attack, where members of the public stopped to help the victim as he awaited emergency services.
A charge of possession of a bladed article in a public place was left to lie on file.
