A young man is in a critical condition after he was stabbed in a dispute between two groups just before midnight last night.

Officers were called to Barking Road, East Ham, at 11.56pm where they found a man with a serious stab wound.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Officers found a man in his early 20s. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where his condition is said to be critical.”

He said it appears the incident happened during a dispute between two groups of youths. Eight people were arrested by police and are in custody.

The incident happened near Barking Road junction with Ron Leighton Way. The Barking Road was closed for some time, but partially re-opened at around 5am today, with some restrictions between the junctions of Aintree Avenue and Hartley Avenue re called to Barking Road, East Ham, at just before midnight
