Two council staff members were left injured after a man threw a stone object at them in the East Ham Customer Service Centre yesterday.
Officers were called to the centre, in Barking Road, at about 2,45pm following reports of disruption caused by a member of the public.
The man was escorted from the premises but he returned at about 3.30pm and threw a stone object at staff.
Two workers suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.
A spokeswoman at Newham Council said: “Newham Council staff should not face abuse or violence in the work place and the council will not tolerate this kind of behaviour.
“The council is working with the police as they investigate the incident.”
The suspect had left the scene before officers arrived. No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
As a result of the incident, the centre was closed yesterday afternoon but is operating normally today.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101.
