The MP for West Ham paid a special visit to the borough's longest-serving barbers to celebrate their work.
Lyn Brown joined Peter’s Gents Hairdressers to celebrate their 57th year of working in Barking Road, Canning Town, on Friday.
The shop has been run by Cypriot barber Pieri Lambri and his wife of 44 years Androulla Lambri.
Ms Brown said: “What a pleasure it was to meet Mr Lambri and Mrs Androulla, who have had their shop on the Barking Road for 57 years.
“Mr Lambri is a very young 83 years old and clearly has no intention of giving up work.
“The pair are a beautiful, loving couple and the barbers is clearly an institution in Canning Town.”
Pieri still opens the shop at 7am sharp and doesn’t close until 6pm in the evening.
“When you find someone like me who has always worked six days a week, it’s not easy to give up, as it’s my life,” Pieri explained.
“I plan to keep going as long as I can stand on my feet.”
The barber, originally moved over to the UK in 1954, where he started working in a barbers in Victoria, before realising after five years, that he wanted to work for himself.
“I wanted to work for myself and ended up coming a long way from the west end, but happy I’m here,” he said.
