London’s Air Ambulance has been enlisted to provide additional medical care for the Olympic Games.

The charity, which provides 24/7 medical care to victims with serious trauma injuries in London, considers their appointment ‘a great honour’.

As well as attending incidents as usual, London’s Air Ambulance will supply additional doctors and paramedics at the Mountain Biking in Hadleigh Farm, BMX competition at the Olympic Park BMX Track, and at the Equestrian (Cross Country) event in Greenwich Park.

Dr Gareth Davies, medical director and chair of the Trustees, said: “We will ensure we provide additional medical care to any events which we may be needed at, augmenting the response of the LOCOG medical teams.

“Our service will carry on providing 24/7 trauma care to the Capital as usual throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Our doctors, paramedics, pilots and fire crew will be on hand for those who fall prey to serious injury through unfortunate circumstances and we will ensure they have the best possible chance of survival and recovery.”
