The summer is approaching and we at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park are busy gearing up for some big events at the stadium.

We are pausing the transformation works for a few months for the Anniversary Games, National Paralympic Day, Barbarians v Samoa, Rugby World Cup 2015, England v New Zealand Rugby League test match and, first of all, the Great Newham London Run.

There is still a lot of work to do but we have already lifted the 14 new sets of lights into place, a phenomenal piece of engineering given they weigh 41 tonnes each. The roof is nearly complete, the retractable seating is going in and the track is being uncovered after spending the past two years in hibernation under protective matting.

The stadium won’t be completely finished until 2016 but we wanted to let people have early access and see some of these great events. You can even take part and be one of the first people to run around the track by signing up for the Great Newham London Run on July 19. The run ends with a lap of the famous track so you can follow in the footsteps of Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Usain Bolt.

There are 10 and two kilometre routes. The promise for the legacy of the stadium was to bring events that everyone can be involved in and what better way than to run around the track yourself?

After the rugby the stadium will close again while further work is done ready for 2016 when we will see the return of the Anniversary Games, another Great Newham London Run and, of course, West Ham United will make it their new home. As part of the final transformation works we will be adding, with the support of the London Marathon Charitable Trust, a community athletics track available for anyone all year round and home to Newham and Essex Beagles Athletics Club.
