An international gospel choir is starting rehearsals in Newham.

The London International Gospel Choir, which evolved from the London Youth Gospel Choir, is a non-auditioned choir which aims to bring communities closer together.

The choir already rehearses twice a week in north and west London, and from Tuesday, September 18, will hold an extra weekly rehearsal in Stratford.

The group launched in 2008, and rehearsals focus on gospel, jazz, soul pop and funk music.

Rehearsals are non-auditioned in a bid to get both amateur and professional singers joining. The choir has recently performed at the Faiths in Tune Festival at the British Museum, the Brandenburg Choral Festival and a Windrush commemoration service in Notting Hill. It was also the finale at the Chorus Festival on the Southbank in July.

The choir has also featured on BBC Radio 3 and Songs of Praise.

The Newham sessions will begin on September 18 at St John’s Church on the Broadway from 7-9pm. For more information, contact joinligc@gmail.com
