An MP warmed up for her role as deputy mayor of the Athletes’ Village in the Olympic Park by taking a virtual bike ride.

Shadow Olympics minister Tessa Jowell is one of the deputy mayors of the village where athletes will stay during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Dame Tessa took a virtual cycle ride through the East Village - the legacy name of the Athletes’ Village - at the 2012 Inspire>Aspire Awarks.

She saw its five park areas, public squares and academy school during the cycle ride. You can view a video showing plans for the East Village on this page.

The Olympic Village will be presided over by Village Mayor Sir Charles Allen and his team of deputy mayors, which in addition to Dame Tessa also includes Olympic swimming gold medallist Duncan Goodhew and Cultural Olympiad chairman Tony Hall.
