Missed out on a place in the Olympic torch relay? You can have one yourself.

Games organisers are to auction off official torches for the duration of the 70-day procession.

Proceeds from the online sales will be used to subsidise the costs of the hand-held flames used by official torchbearers, and help pay for the Games, according to Locog.

The move comes after several of the official torchbearers put them up for sale on Ebay. They reportedly attracted six-figure bids.

The torches are currently available to relay participants at a discounted cost of £215.

Locog commercial director Chris Townsend added: “The London 2012 auction not only offers fans the chance to own a piece of history but helps subsidise the cost of torches for torchbearers.”

Each torch will come packaged in a collectors box with a certificate of authenticity and a unique serial ID number. They will be released to mark significant moments along the torch relay route.

During the Games, sporting equipment used by competitors will also be available through www.london2012.com/auction site.
