Police were called to a polling station in Forest Gate because of over-zealous leafleting.

A Newham Council spokesman said representatives of two parties were jostling to hand leaflets to voters outside Woodgrange Baptist Church, resulting in police being called late this morning.

The church, in Romford Road, is one of nine in the borough to be used as a polling station for today’s council, mayoral and European elections, hosting voters from Forest Gate South ward.
