Labour has retained control of Newham Council, winning every seat for a second election running.

The party saw off competition from a number of rivals in all 20 wards.

Turnouts across the borough have fluctuated, with East Ham North seeing 51.97 per cent of voters have their say.

Custom House and Canning Town South both saw turnouts of just 32.96pc, while Beckton took the lowest turnout of the day with 31.8pc.

Seyi Akiwowo, newly elected to Forest Gate North, said she hopes to bring a “new fresh perspective” to the borough.

She, Ellie Robinson and Rachel Tripp were the first three councillors to be elected, receiving more than 2000 votes each.

The party’s control of the borough comes after Sir Robin Wales was re-elected as mayor earlier today.
