West Ham MP Lyn Brown spoke to young people on the right track to work in the rail industry in Stratford last week.

The Labour MP was invited to speak to apprentices on a 12 to 18 month course on Tuesday May 14 studying for an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Rail Engineering with hopes to work on big transport projects such as the East London Line, Thames Link, or Crossrail.

Their training began at the end of April and they are currently spending their first 16 weeks gaining vital certificates in Health & Safety at the Alpha Building Services & Engineering College before teaming up with construction employers Carillion for more hands-on experience on the tracks.

After her visit, Ms Brown said: “You only have to meet the apprentices to see that the talent and willingness to learn is there in abundance if we can offer the right opportunities.”
