The Newham People’s Alliance (NPA) pressure group has announced plans for another demonstration outside the Town Hall next week.

The protesters, who say they are commmitted to “fighting the institutional social and religious cleansing of Newham”, decided to schedule a second protest outside Newham Town Hall on Saturday 23 following a meeting between community and religious groups in East Ham on Friday March 8.

Over 100 people attended, according to the NPA website, and they also voted unanimously to submit a petition to the Department for Communities and Local Government in the coming months, hoping to trigger a referendum on the borough’s directly-elected mayor system.
