Newham Council won three awards at the Local Government Chronicle Awards on Wednesday - more than any other council in the country,

It was nominated in eight categories and the local authority won the Efficiency Award for delivering £114m of savings; Tackling Fraud Award for recouping nearly £1m of taxpayers’ money from fraudsters; and the Best Front-line Team award for their Property Licensing Scheme while the Every Child programme was highly commended.

Sir Robin Wales Mayor of Newham said: “Every member of staff should be proud of our achievement in both being nominated for and winning more LGC Awards 2013 than any other council.

“Despite facing some of the biggest cuts in country, we have managed to protect frontline services and have also invested in areas that will drive resilience in the future.

“The last year has been phenomenal for the council, not only have we maximised Games opportunities for local people, we’ve also implemented the boldest, most innovative policy of any local authority in the country.”
