NEWHAM Council chiefs must do more to make details of executive pay easily available, a London Assembly member has said.
Green Party representative Darren Johnson said such moves were vital to a proper debate about fair pay in local government.
Newham Council is obliged by law to publish details of all employees earning 150,000 and above in its annual statement of accounts, which is currently linked from the front page of the authority’s website.
But Mr Johnson said: “Expecting residents to find and then search through detailed accounts documents isn’t good enough.” He added that only eight London boroughs currently provide “easily accessible information” – such as a dedicated website page – about top executives’ pay.
A Newham Council spokesman said: “Our statement of accounts are on our home page so we’re a model example.”
