Newham Council are reducing recycling collections to once a fortnight next month for most households using orange-topped bins.

The local authority say that cuts to their central Government grant is forcing them to make the change as they estimate it will save £400,000.

The orange bin recycling service was introduced two years ago and a pilot was carried out on 11,000 households before the decision was made.

Most residents who use orange bags will still receive weekly collections and properties housing more than six people could get a larger bin.

Waste collections will still be weekly and all residents subject to the recycling reduction will be receive a leaflet.
