Manager reflects on 4-1 home loss to Scunthorpe United.

Leyton Orient boss Fabio Liverani launched a scathing attack on his players after their 4-1 home loss to Scunthorpe United.

Tom Hopper’s brace and one each for Liam O’Neil and Gary McSheffrey saw the Iron inflict the O’s to their heaviest defeat of the season, with Darius Henderson’s penalty proving to be a mere consolation.

And Liverani admits things will have to change dramatically if Orient are to avoid relegation after overseeing his worst game since taking charge at Brisbane Road.

“This is the worst game since I have been in charge. I saw a team without guts, heart, courage or anything,” said Liverani.

“Since I have arrived I have heard a lot of players moaning. There is always someone to have a say on everything, but then it is not shown on the pitch.

“From now on, things are changing. There is no more day off during the week and double training during the week.

And while people may call for changes once again at the O’s, Liverani admits he won’t be walking away from this challenge, even if it ends in relegation.

“I am not leaving a sinking boat and I will never resign from a job,” he added.

“I never ask the players to play for me. The players are mature enough to play for themselves and for the club.

“I spoke to the president during the week as well and I want to be clear about one thing – We are not changing and if we sink, we sink together with the players and the staff at the end of the season.

With the transfer deadline looming, he added: “We will see who we will bring in, but all the players that are here since July are responsible for this situation. They will stay here until the end of the season.”

Mauro Milanese parted ways with the club during the week, and the O’s Italian boss believed there was issues between Milanese and president Francesco Becchetti.

“He had some serious issues with the chairman, not related to the squad,” he remarked.

“I do not know the details. There are issues between the chairman and Mauro Milanese.”
