Supermarket Lidl is one of three “leading high street brands” set to land at the Stratford Centre.

Stratford’s first Lidl will open in November alongside jewellers Warren James and Charlotte Reid, joining 60 other retail spaces.

Andrew Norton, centre manager, said: “The arrival of Lidl is a fantastic move for Stratford Centre. More people than ever are coming here to shop and, with every unit now let, we are able to give them the broadest possible retail offering.”

And William Barker, Lidl’s senior consultant of acquisitions, said coming to Stratford will fulfil a long-held desire at the company.

“As part of Lidl UK’s ongoing expansion programme we are continuously looking at new locations and east London has long been an area of interest to us,” he said.

“Stratford in particular has positioned itself in recent years as a destination for savvy shoppers, and we have no doubt that local residents and visitors alike will enjoy the great value and quality that Lidl has to offer.”

He added it was good news for job-seekers as well as shoppers.

“We are hoping to be able to offer up to 40 full and part time positions when the store opens later in the year,” he said. “We would like to take the opportunity to thank the local community for all of the support that we have received so far, and very much look forward to opening our doors and bringing some of our Lidl surprises to Stratford.”
