League One: Leyton Orient 0 Notts County 1

Leyton Orient remain bottom of the League One table after they slipped to a 1-0 home loss to Notts County.

Balint Bajner netted the only goal of the game in the first half, and despite dominating possession and chances the O’s were unable to unlock the visitors defence in another frustrating evening for the Brisbane Road side.

O’s boss Fabio Liverani made six changes from the side which lost 4-1 against Scunthorpe United with goalkeeper Alex Cisak in for his debut after joining on loan from Burnley, while there were recalls for Scott Cuthbert, Kevin Lisbie, David Mooney, Shane Lowry and Josh Wright.

It was Notts County that started the better and inside five minutes Garry Thompson was through on goal but somehow fired his effort wide with just Cisak to beat.

That was an early scare for the O’s but they regrouped and after a goalmouth scramble Mathieu Baudry couldn’t force the ball over the line.

After a frenetic start it looked to have calmed down, but the visitors took the lead with 20 minutes on the clock.

The ball fell to Hungarian Balint Bajner and his deflected shot in the box found a way past Cisak and O’s were behind.

Orient almost levelled within a matter of minutes but from Josh Wright’s corner, Shane Lowry’s header struck the top of the bar, before Lisbie blazed another chance over.

Bradley Pritchard’s pin-point right wing cross found an onrushing Chris Dagnall but the striker glanced a header off target.

The O’s remained on top, but they couldn’t find an equaliser before the break as Lowry saw a goalbound shot blocked in stoppage time.

Orient came out a good five minutes early for the second half as Liverani opted to keep faith with the side which started the match as the O’s looked to make a comeback.

While the first half got off to an eventful start, the second was lacking in action, and the fans voiced their displeasure when Dagnall was brought off and Shaun Batt was his replacement, with chants of ‘you don’t know what you are doing’.

Contrastingly Dean Cox came off the bench minutes later and was greeted by cheers when replacing Bradley Pritchard.

Chances were a t a premium but David Mooney took aim from 30 yards, but his effort across goal curled wide of the target.

Orient were still dominant in possession and Lisbie headed straight at Carroll as the game went into the final 10 minutes.

Cox managed to find some room on the edge of the area but his shot was just held by Carroll as the O’s tried to up the ante.

But time was ticking away and the try as they may they were unable to force a late equaliser and remain rooted to bottom of the League One table.
