Leyton Orient midfielder Romain Vincelot admits scoring the late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United was ‘one of the best feelings’.
The O’s were camped in their own half for much of the second period as Paddy McCarthy’s 90th minute goal cancelled out Jay Simpson’s first half opener.
But they looked like making the journey home without a point when Marc McNulty headed the Blades in front.
However, Vincelot had other ideas as his bullet-like header from Jack Price’s corner in the 99th minute ensured a share of the spoils for Kevin Nugent’s side, and the Frenchman was over the moon.
“It feels like a win,” said Vincelot. “There were a lot of ups and downs in the game and to get the point at the end with that scenario is really good. It was one of the best feelings scoring late.”
It was one-way traffic for most of the second half for Orient as the Blades created a plethora of opportunities.
Somehow they withstood the barrage for the most part, and though they did fall behind, Vincelot felt the point was nothing more than they deserved.
“They had many chances but they didn’t score because we put bodies on the line and we gave everything,” he added. “It was hard being under so much pressure especially with the stand full of their fans behind the goal.
“I think we did really well even though there was a lot of chances because we defended like hungry people.
“Unfortunately for one of the goals they scored there was a foul on me but that’s football and we had the spirit to get it back. It shows the strength of character.”
Vincelot will take all the plaudits for the equaliser, but he reserved special praise for fellow midfielder Jack Price, who put in the ‘perfect’ corner for the 28-year-old to head home.
Describing the goal, Vincelot said: “There is a corner for us and almost every one of us went up because it was probably going to be the last chance.
“I was on the edge of the box to try and get some room. I took two or three steps and tit was the perfect ball and timing.
“It was an easy one because no-one was marking me or the defenders were not close enough.
“I saw somebody try to save it on the line but I knew that I hit it well so I gave all I could and thankfully it went in.”
