While September marks back to school, for the park, it signals a return to the stadium, as we gear up for an autumn of world class events.

To kick things off in style we’ll be welcoming rugby union fans from all over the world to five matches in the Rugby World Cup. Then the towering posts will stay in place as we change rugby codes to see England take on New Zealand in what is sure to be a nail-biting Rugby League match.

The world’s greatest motor-sports drivers will then assemble for the Race of Champions in November.

After all this action, the stadium will close again as we finish our transformation works, reopening fully in 2016, for further world class athletics, and West Ham’s move into their new home for the 2016/17 football season.

One part of the transformation that really excites me is the addition of a community athletics track. It will be home to Newham and Essex Beagles Athletics Club but it will be open to everyone. It’s an important addition to the wide range of community sports available on the park and helps ensure we deliver the athletics legacy promised from 2012.

We’re holding a huge celebration of sport on Saturday September 12. The #BeActive Festival is the culmination of the first ever European Week of Sport, which will be celebrated in 31 countries across Europe.

There will be free sports and activities for the whole family to try, whatever your age and fitness level. There’s no need to book. For details visit queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/beactive-european-week-of-sport
