Commercial premises on the docks from the 1980s are set to be transformed into a waterside housing and business development.

The Turnberry Quay scheme on the Isle of Dogs to the south of Baltimore Wharf is set to create 60 construction jobs and 26 permanent jobs, according to housing company Bellway Homes who are contractors alongside Lanark Square Limited.

The project was recently granted planning permission from Tower Hamlets council, attracting £19m of private investment and an £800,000 grant from the Greater London Assembly’s Mayoral Community Infrastructure Levy.

At Turnberry Quay, developers say 32 per cent of new flats will be “affordable”, with 68 per cent for rent and the rest for shared ownership.

The 13-storey building will house 89 new, mixed-tenure homes on the upper levels - ranging from one to three bedrooms - and 320m squared of commercial space on the ground floor.

Designed by architects Stock Woolstencroft, the flats will also boast riverside balconies or terraces and a children’s play area at the front of the building.
