The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has launched an investigation into a Newham police stop which left a man in “critical condition” in hospital.

Metropolitan Police officers carried out the stop involving three men in Woodcocks near Tollgate Road, Beckton, last Thursday at about 10pm.

During the stop, a 25-year-old became unwell and was taken to hospital where he remains.

The incident was referred to the IPCC and staff were deployed to the scene and post-incident procedure.

An independent investigation was launched the next morning at 7.46am.

The IPCC is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to email woodcocksroad@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk or call 0800 096 9073.

The Metropolitan Police said it could not comment on the incident any further.
