A sporty father died after he suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming in Royal Victoria Dock during a triathlon event.

Peter Frankland, 48, from Kentish Town, north London, passed out during the Virgin Active London event on July 27 in which participants rasied money for charity by swimming, cycling, and running over a chosen distance which varied according to ability. Paramedics tried to save the solicitor, who was raising money for men’s health charities, but he died in hospital on Wednesday August 14.

Peter ran his own law firm in north London, was an “incredibly fit person” according to his wife Felicity who spoke to the London Evening Standard about her grief.

She told the newspaper he cycled eight miles to work every day, and he ran the London Marathon last year.

She added: “His heart stopped for some reason - but there was nothing wrong with his heart.

“It was not a heart attack. He had a cardiac arrest but I don’t think we will ever know why.

“His father had heart problems and died at a relatively young age so maybe there was something there.”

A Virgin Active spokesman said: “We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
