After a successful visit to the Middle East the Imps motorcycle display team has been training and performing with the young Prince and Princess of Jordan.

A group of about 40 young motorcyclists spent two weeks in Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah after he saw them performing at last year’s Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

While there, the founder of the Imps, Roy Pratt MBE, helped the authorities set up their own Jordan Imps. He said he was proud of the way his display team performed and conducted themselves abroad. He said many of the young people had come back to Britain and given powerpoint presentation to fellow pupils.

While they were there they were asked if they would help train Princess Salma, 11, and Prince Hashem, six, to ride.

Now, both have spent time training with the Imps and have even performed in public with them at a show in Orsett in Essex. Now they are hoping to perform with the Imps at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Roy told the Recorder that the young Prince and Princess loved spending time with the Imps and performing with them.

The East Ham based Imps team has taken part in six Edinburgh Military Tattoos and comprises young people from Walthamstow, Hackney and Newham. They are loved by crowds and watched by millions.

Today’s display team was formed in the 1970s by Roy Pratt MBE and has its roots in The Hackney Adventure Holiday Project which provided holidays in the country for under privileged young people.
