Bread company Hovis, who have run a bakers in Forest Gate since 1904, played host to a community tea party at Beckton Community Centre.

More than 120 families sat down to enjoy food, drink and entertainment as part of company’s commitment to maintaining a strong community feel.

The bakery, on Wyatt Road, Forest Gate, has been in operation for more than a century and has served some families for generations.

Organiser Ruksana Patel and site director Duncan Crawford put together the event, inviting the centre’s disabled classes and youngsters from Winsor Primary School, which is opposite the East Ham Manor Way centre, to attend recently.

Ruksana said: “The community turned out in large numbers to enjoy and take part in the entertainment.”

She added that Hovis had received positive feedback from those who attendeed.
