Essential repairs can be carried out on a Grade II Listed church in Plaistow thanks to a charity grant.
The Memorial Community Church on Barking Road is to receive �40,000 to help fund urgent to high-level brickwork on the central section of the west front of the building.
The brickwork has deteriorated and, along with movement in the terracotta and decay in the original windows, it is putting the west front at risk.
The money was awarded by National Churches Trust Cornerstone, an independent Christian charity that have paid for repairs to 17 historic churches in Great Britain this year.
The charity said the funding was given to the Memorial Community Church because its congregation represents young, diverse Newham, it is involved in the local community through projects such as Bridges, Alternatives’ We Are Family Project, Transform - a group of four Newham churches - and youth work.
