Sweet success for UEL and Fairtrade products

PUBLISHED: 15:55 10 February 2012

New students at the University of East London (UEL) were recently treated to some homemade cake to celebrate one year as a Fairtrade accredited institution.

The UEL said it had increased the number of Fairtrade products available in its catering outlets and vending machines.

Promotions have included a lecture on Fairtrade cotton and activities for new students.

This year, Fairtrade Fortnight starts on February 27.

Energy and environment minister Sara Kassam said: “It’s great news that UEL has been re-accredited.

“It is a true testament to the many people across the whole university who have supported the Fairtrade campaign over the last 12 months.”
