Zumba fever gripped Newham Town Hall when the local community, volunteers, and a local business got together for a one-off dance party.
Over 110 people took part in a free two-hour dance class dubbed the “Zumba Party 2012” inside the council chambers in East Ham under the expert tutelage of Salsa Pam Dance, a weekly community fitness club in Plaistow.
Pam Rene, founder of the dance outfit, was in attendance along with three other dance instructors for the afternoon of fun and healthy exercise.
Pam says her mission is “to motivate 100,000 local people who live and work in Newham to feel happier, healthier, and fitter” to help prevent type two diabetes and heart disease.
The event was funded by Newham Council’s ‘Get the Party Started’ scheme and Pam is planning to apply for further funding to hold another event in which she hopes to double the number of dancers.
