More prescriptions for type 2 diabetes are made in the borough than anywhere else in the country.
NHS data analysed by Exasol show Newham has more than double the amount of people using medication such as Metformin, Gliclazide and Sitagliptin.
Neighbouring Tower Hamlets was also high in the list, coming in at fourth.
Sean Jackson, chief marketing officer at Exasol, said he hoped the data could help reduce the problem, adding: “We can see the proof that diabetes prescribing has increased drastically over the past five years.”
