Trust even greener
The Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and the University of London are the first public sector bodies that are using a framework set up by the London Mayor and involves the retrofitting of buildings to save energy and cut carbon emissions.
Both trusts are now in a competition to find a company that can guarantee energy efficiency measures and can deliver the work by the end of March next year.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “I am thrilled that University of London and the Newham University Hospital NHS Trust are leading the charge and I urge others to take up a carbon cutting scheme that is too good to ignore.”
He said the programme has been designed to help universities, councils, hospitals and other public organisations fit energy-busting gizmos in their buildings and achieve guaranteed financial savings.
