Newham Council will receive extra funding from the government to help ease winter pressures on the NHS.

The cash will be given to the council to pay for home care and reablement packages or to pay for home adaptations so hospital patients can be discharged faster.

The £1,468,413 funding is based on the adult social care relative needs formula and is part of a £240m pot for local authorities across the country.

Health and Social Care Secretary, Matt Hancock said: “I want to help the NHS through this winter.

“We will use this money to help people who don’t need to be in hospital, but do need care, to get back home, into their communities, so we can then free up those vital hospital beds, and help more people get the hospital care they need.”

London boroughs will receive a collective total of £37,170,352.
