Finding out about safety at hospital

STAFF, patients and visitors to Newham University Hospital NHS Trust learned about improving safety.

To mark National Patient Safety Week, a stand highlighted some of the work being done. This included the Enhanced Recovery project which is a new way of providing care for patients having surgery that supports their safety by improving recovery time.

The Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) also showed the work they are doing to improve patient safety.

Regular assessments of the hospital site are undertaken to ensure improvements are made to the environment. Some of the actions that have been completed include a deep clean of patient equipment, reducing the risk of infection, and the creation of single sex accommodation.

Andrea Beattie, Patient Safety Lead (pictured, left), said: “Patient safety is of vital importance at the Trust. All staff, whether their role is clinical, support, clerical, or managerial, have an important part to play in improving patient safety as part of everyday working.” Andrea is pictured with a member of nursing staff.
