The power and excitement of dragon boat racing returned to the Royal Docks to thrill a huge crowd on Sunday.

As the Royal Albert Dock echoed to the sound of rhythmic drumming, colourful stalls, the smells of delicious street food, the Regatta Centre hosted competitions mainlt involving east London’s business community.

The free family fun of the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival include spectacular lion dancing, music, and other live entertainment such as children’s activities including a bouncy castle, face painting and a fun fair.

It also marked the 15th anniversary of the return of Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty.

Dragon boat racing is said to be one of the fastest growing water sports in the uk.

Through sponsorship and entry fees from the boat teams traking part, the festival raises money for various Chinese community organisations. Its principle funded this year was the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London.
