A Beckton couple have been recognised for their work campaigning for dementia research.
Vicky Huntley, 50, and husband Martin Taylor, 52, were named Champions of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The accolade recognises the couple’s “exceptional” support for the charity since the got involved with it eight years ago.
They have shared their personal experience of dementia to help develop a virtual reality experience surrounding the condition, tackle myths with articles in the press as well as appearing in the charity’s first educational art exhibition.
“When I talk to people and say I have Alzheimer’s they don’t believe me, they tell me I’m too young,” said Vicky. “That’s why I want to raise awareness of how dementia can and does affect people of different ages, like me.”
As Champions, the pair join about 50 people praised for their work raising funds and awareness of the disease.
