An NHS body has held an awards ceremony to congratulate hundreds of east Londoners who took part in their training programme.

Barts Health NHS Trust, which runs hospitals including Royal London, Mile End and Newham University, praised the nearly 2,700 people who took part in the programme.

Majorobo Bajaha, from Newham, was handed an award for excelling in the scheme, all while balancing part-time work with a full-time training course and raising her young child.

She will begin shortly as a healthcare assistant at Newham University Hospital’s Plashet Ward.

“Although I really enjoyed the training it was tough juggling everything, but I remained steadfast and didn’t want the opportunity to escape from my hands,” she said.

According to Barts Health, 60 participants secured a job with the trust last year, with 107 completing short admin and clerical work placements.

A further 1,583 students were given information on health careers.

The awards event took place on October 10.
