The first week of a TfL consultation to increase regulation of private hire vehicles has attracted a huge backlash, particularly from the wildly successful taxi app, Uber.

So far, a petition by the company opposing the proposals has attracted more than 130,000 signatures – while one to the British government to ban the service altogether has gathered nearly 15,000 names.

If introduced, the changes suggested in the consultation would see a required minimum five minute wait time for vehicles, a restriction on car pooling and English language tests for all drivers –changing the way that Uber operates.

Meanwhile, the legality of using smart phones to calculate the route and price has been debated at the high court, with a verdict expected this week.

The TfL consultation runs until December 23 and can be found at consultations.tfl.gov.uk/tph/private-hire-proposals

What do you think about Uber? And which taxi service do you use, if at all?
