Visitors to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park can celebrate a year of local food growing at a special harvest festival at the weekend.

The Harvest Stomp is a new free festival celebrating growing and locally-made produce in and around the park, and part of Urban Food Fortnight 2015 – an annual celebration of food produced on the capital’s doorsteps.

Taking place over six hours from 12pm on Saturday, September 19, near to the Timber Lodge Cafe, the afternoon will feature demonstration bee hives, farm animals and local produce-tasting alongside traditional games and crafts.

There will also be a performance by the London Vegetable Orchestra, barn dancing and the Giant Welly Boot Walk – a stomping parade into the park at noon to open the festival.

Local growers, bakers and makers are also being invited to enter the traditional harvest competition, The Cream of the Crop, which will be judged on the day.

There will be 11 competition classes including the heaviest pumpkin, the tastiest preserve and best cake made with home grown or foraged ingredients.

Prizes will be awarded for the most impressive, tasty and creative entries, with categories to suit every type of grower.

Visitors can also enjoy a do-si-do or two at the Harvest Barn Dance or take part in a ‘Giant Salad Toss’ showdown.
