Scrapping the number 25 bendy buses from the Stratford-Manor Park route in Newham will save taxpayers �1.4m a year in reduced fare evasion, say Transport for London.
The claim came as the last ever of the controversial buses left London’s streets at the weekend in a withdrawal scheme that will save an estimated �7.4million a year in lost revenue.
Bendy buses, introduced in 2002, started losing favour with transport experts in 2004 after a string of incidents including one spontaneously catching fire.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “We bid a final but not fond farewell to the bendy bus.”
